A proximity key (also named Push-to-Start, Keyless Go, Smart Key or Intelligent Key) is a computerized device that permits a automatic entrance and engine igniting in your vehicle.
When you’re within the appropriate radius, the smart key transmit combination of audio and infrared waves with your immobilizer to unlock and lock doors and even to start the engine while having the key in the pocket.
30 years ago, Mercedes-Benz was the first company to implement this system in a vehicle.
